The PRCC submitted a letter of support, in October, for creation of the grade 6 – 12 the Libertas Academy Charter public school. Modesto Montero, the person leading the charge, submitted the application to the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education on Nov. 4, 2015.
“We support all efforts that put children’s education front and center,” said José Saavedra, chairman of the PRCC Board of Directors. “Charter schools are a controversial issue but that should not keep us from looking out for what is best for students. We are excited to be a part of this historic push for more opportunities for Springfield students. We will continue to be deeply involved in education issues and encourage all community members to do participate.”
